Hi Shweta,

A function g(x, y) is said to be increasing in x if a > a' implies g(a, y) >= g(a', y) for all y. Just use this definition and its easy to check that the function in question is increasing in x. Also check that it is not necessarily the case with y. Try and find function for which the assumptions of the question holds and the function you suggested is increasing in some region and decreasing in some.
