Ritu, I don't understand what is the basis for assuming two or any one of them poorer. What if all three are poor? Its the problem involving three alternatives and we should only talk about them. If you want to understand it through utilities, lets consider the following utility function. Lets say an individual derive utility 3 if his best alternative is chosen, 2 if the second rank alternative is chosen and 1 if the worst alternative is chosen. Rawlsian Welfare function will be min of three utility functions. And objective is to maximize it. If you chose A or C you will get 1. If you chose B you will get 2. So B is better than the rest.
