Hi Fudge,

The Quant section in CAT includes mathematics up to class 8th while mathematics in the DSE entrance exam is tested up to class 12th. CAT is an aptitude test which focuses on speed while DSE is more of a precision test which focuses on the application of concepts.

I would recommend that you go through the past year DSE exams to get a clearer picture of kind of questions asked. Also in my opinion a strong mathematical background is imperative for a Masters in Economics.

:) Good Luck

the algebra section that is coverd in quant might b very helpful in preparing for ISI/DSE level maths......topics include ..
1.upto n degree polynomials and roots,
2.functions and graphs (curve sketching),
3.permutations and combinations,
4.probability,
5.Logarithm
6.sequence, series and progressions
