Dear WilliamsThe list of books you have mentioned seems all right, but be warned that Mas Collell is really really tough. It's very rigorous and very mathematical, and you might end up worse off than when you started. Consider Varian (Intermediate Microeconomics as well as Microeconomic Analysis) if you don't have any previous exposure to micro. Do the Varian workbook to get your fundamentals clear. Only then should you proceed to MWG (if at all).
For macro, Dornbusch and Fischer is a good textbook too.
As for locking yourself into a room, that's entirely your call. Working hard for 2-3 months is worth it if you feel that you are capable of getting into a good institute. Time management is essential, but don't study to the extent that you run out of enthusiasm by the time the exam comes around.
Best of luck!

Hi,
I have been advised by someone that the following is an exhaustive list of books for preparation of m.a. eco for any entrance test in India
- Simon and blume for maths
- Blanchard for micro
- Mas collell for micro
They also advised me that I should lock myself up in a room and forget the world to have any chance at cracking the exam. Considering the fact that I don't have a very glorious record in Maths and Economics (in +2 and in my BBA), please advise if it's worth trying for the economics entrances or should I look somewhere else?
Thanks,
Williams
