MSE, SAU

Smriti
HI

needed to aks about south asian unv,. and madras school of eco.
Which is a better choice?
About financial eco, i know nothing more than the subjects names.
Is the scope of dev. eco , sau narrower than m.a eco? Is it restricted to the dev sector?
And last thing , how is Ambedkar unv. for m.a eco..?

Please reply asap.

MSE is a better choice than SAU at present..
Financial economics definitely gives u an edge because if u study finance with economics, there r lot more opportunities in employment sector..
in financial economics u have to study tools of finance, its use in eco, financial maths etc..u may talk to any senior who studied at MSE(this course will definitely be more mathematical than simple m.a eco)
DEVELOPMENT eco is definitely an emerging choice, but if u r really interested in doing development studies,go ahead with TATA SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES (m.a. development studies)..their institute is d best in india to study development.....
regarding AMBEDKAR university, the course structure is good, academic environment is really nice, they will teach pure economics(about keynes, marx, adam smith all...this is what i heared)
but dont expect a good placement after studying in AMBEDKAR....!!!!

My only concern with MSE is that it is a private institute, i guess..and i guess i would prefer financial eco to m.a eco but i am really clueless abt financial eco ke subjects. I went tthrough the curriculum , but all i could gather was some weird names

Re: MSE, SAU

lovekesh
lots of guesses..:P
Financial eco will include: Computational Finance which is "Computational finance, also called financial engineering, is a cross-disciplinary field which relies on computational intelligence, mathematical finance, numerical methods and computer simulations to make trading, hedging and investment decisions, as well as facilitating the risk management of those decisions. Utilising various methods, practitioners of computational finance aim to precisely determine the financial risk that certain financial instruments create."

Financial economics : "Financial economics is the branch of economics concerned with "the allocation and deployment of economic resources, both spatially and across time, in an uncertain environment"

Fixed Income securities will be related with Bond markets and other securities which have fixed future stream of incomes.

Risk Management: It will include portfolio management. It can be a portfolio of Ambani Brothers or Portfolio of LIC. Your task will be to minimize risk using various instruments invented for the same. it's a very challenging job in IB.

So, all in all, you will be studying core economics which is micro, macro and econometrics and rest will be financial subjects. I don't know whether they will offer you computational finance. But working in Finance would allow you to work with the smartest guys you would ever come across and they would certainly expect the same of you. Good Luck!!!
