MSE or CDS

nishtha92
Can anyone tell me which one of these two is better considering curriculum, professors and placements. If anybody has any idea about the avg placement packages from cds then please mention that too.

Re: MSE or CDS

For placement MSE is better than CDS. CDS doesn't have active placement cell. Faculty is also good at mse.

Its a dilemma even I am dealing with. JNU/CDS ecosystem seems to be all about research and MSE seems to be all about finance and quant.

Is MSE teaching of good standards, apart from the placement angle?

Does CDS allow you to get placed in a corporate office ?

MSE! Its been offering these courses since a long time and does have really good placmnts too. Good faculty too.
cds..from wat i’ve heard it does not have placements. Also adjusting in the far south could be another task! but the faculty should be fine

I have a query in particular for their environmental course. I am interested in that course but I am not sure about the kind of jobs that people from this course are offered. As far as I know placements are better for general and financial. Anybody has any idea about the placements for this course? Packages and profiles?

@Nishtha! If you have good marks and potential you can get placement in any company. Last year 2 Environmental students got placement in Deloitte for risk profile. It depends on hw you perform in aptitude test and interviews.

Nishtha,

for MSE
the core courses will be common in first year so you will get the best profs early on.
the environmental economics course is attached to one of India's top environmental economists, and is a centre of excellence
the environmental course will not have that much emphasis on finance as it is more academic. However it is possible for you to cover your finance because of the enormous free time you will get at MSE

for CDS
it has more full time profs than MSE, and it offers a JNU Degree. The location is isolated and student teacher ratio is unbelievable. People have started going on to do Mphils from Oxford and Japan here
