consumer surplus

ahlashi
in an economy the demand function for cigarattes is Q=12-P and Supply function is Qs=2P. The govt. reinforces the policies so that half of the cigarettes supply would be seized and destroyed. How does the consumer surplus change between the two situations ?

the correct answer is it decreases by 14

im not gettin it

equating 12-P=2P, we will get P=4 and Q=8. CS= (1/2)*8*8=32. now equate the 12-P=P, u will get P=Q=6 and CS=.5*6*6=18
