No. P (a intersection b)=0 while P (a).P (b) is some finite quantity. They can never be equal.

Intuitively, disjoint events cannot both occur at the same time. If one happens, the other does not – guaranteed. Independent events must be able to occur at the same time. If one happens, it has no influence on the other whatsoever

exactly my point, but i checked the dse solution key, they have some other answer for this, its question 20 of series 1

If at least one of the two events is empty, then they are independent.
