If you were to prepare for the ISI interview what would you do exactly? :) . Any idea how the interview will be, as in, just plain eco/math questions like in the entrance test or gen stuff from UG/workex?
Thanks Deepak. Wish u the same :)
I would hv revised micro, maths n stats again. Bcoz there's quite a gap b/w 23rd june n 9th july. N i guess i wudve practised more stats questions (i think I'll still do that in the last couple of days). As far as i know they ask plain maths/eco questions. In fact a senior told me that all people in one session r given the same 2 questions n they r given time 2 think abt it b4 they present their solution to the panel. So u prefer isi to dse, right?
I'm not sure if I'm right in preferring ISI to DSE. I am a computer science major and know pretty little about eco colleges. I do know that the pedigree of both these institutes is indisputable. Though, ISI has a stronger research focus, I have been led to believe. Is that correct?
And thank you for the tip. I should dig up stat and get the basics right. I still can't get my intuition right on macro on many occasions. Also, I see that our interviews happen at the same time on the 9th of July. Looking forward to meeting you.
I'm not sure but I think u r right. U hv 2 ask urself if u want to study only hard core quantitative economics. I personally prefer DSE's course structure, though I know the overall experience at ISI would be better :P
See u there :D
Hey Deepak i just spoke to a friend of mine who gave the interview in Kolkata. She said the interview lasted for 30-35 mins. Each person was given one maths question and one eco question to solve. They gave hints when she got stuck. Sounds ok. I guess I should revise something or else I'll make a fool of myself. Sigh.
Oh! Thanks for the tip, Vasudha. You think we should try solving JRF papers or would that be overkill? (Not even sure if i'll be able to answer those questions, just wondering out loud)
Sure. To begin with I just glanced through 2012's sample questions. See question 6 part b. Don't we just have to turn over the second card? Why is this a 10 mark question? Am I missing something?
