(a) x > y
(b) x ≤ y
(c) x > 0 > y
(d) x < 0 < y

Consider x=-2, y=1 and e=2. Then (a) doesn't hold.
Consider x=4, y=2, e=3. Then (b) doesn't hold.
Consider x=-2, y=1 and e=3. Then (c) hold.
Consider x=2, y=3 and e=1 then (d) doesn't hold.

Any suggestions anyone? How can all the options be wrong? And there are no restrictions on the values of x and y, so nothing seems wrong with the counter-examples...

First let me start by Q33:

All you need to do is equate the elements coming from X and Y into S:

(5*20)/10 =  2*n/4>> n=20


Can anybody give me some idea about Q6?

and in Q19, I am confused with b,c or d .. first confusion is do we be on budget line or we need the total area under the budget line? and secondly do we include (0,0)

About Q 35 : Fixed elasticity functions are : F(x) = x^a where a is elasticity. now F(x)/x= x^(a-1) so 0.5-1= -0.5


In Q44, answer is (a) ...


in Q51, its (d) because x cant be equal to y since e is not equal to zero ..


Can somebody detail whats happening in Q 55??


Q 69, answer is (b)


Q 77, shouldnt the answer be (b)???


Q 84, The answer is (b)

Q 87, shouldnt the answer be (c)... first even I got d .. but then c seemed better to me ...

And for 51, Chinni has shown that d can't hold --- what's the right answer? This question has been troubling me also for quite some time.

in 84, first see the wiki link i posted .. and then I figured (b) purely on unit basis ...

Hi aditi, for q41, i am not sure about the answer but your reasoning is flawed. One range can have 2 domains, not a problem, but one domain must not have 2 values in range for f to be a function.. If height is the range set, and persons are in domain set, then one element of domain cannot have more than one element of range, i:e one person cannot have 2 values of height..
You can draw an inverse u shape graph, its still a function, not a relation..

Oh oh!! Yes yes, you are absolutely right, my mistake. The correct answer is indeed option C. Reasoning:
for option A
2(3/2 + 1/2 ) = 4 corresponds to 3/4
2(1+1) = 4 corresponds to 1
So 4,3/4 and 4,1 are present in the relation thus it's not a function.

Option C
the student's height is unique to himself so (a,1) (b,2) etc... forms a function.

yes ... all seems to be right .. but @87,

Shouldnt buying shares of SAIL, would count  as an investment? ... as I said, initially I also went with D .. but then got confused over this particular point ..

In general, what would be the diffference between Savings and investment? Investing in SAIL seemed an investment to me.... :)

My understanding of the concept of investment is that it adds to the physical stock of capital. Buying shares, bonds etc. represents reallocation of existing assets, and hence does not count as investment. If SAIL was to sell 100 crores in stock to build a new steel plant, however, it would be counted as investment.
