jnu 2011 logic

aastha
One of A,B,C and D has cheated in the examination with the help of another one of them .Here are the statements that these individuals made to the invigilator :
A: If b is guilty of some wrong doing , then C must be innocent.
B: If A is innocent , then C must be guilty.
C: If B cheated in the examination, then D must have had nothing to do with any of the wrong doing.
  D : I am innocent
The statement of the person who has cheated and his accomplice are false and those of the remaining two are true.
1) the person who cheated in the exam was
a) A   b)B   c) C   d)D

2)the accomplice of the person who cheated in the examination was
a)A   b)B   c)C   d)D

since Both A and C statements depends on the involvement of B , let's assume B is indeed the guilt one. I can't assume he is the cheater. I took the lighter condition, that he is involved. If my assumption is correct, then B must be telling lie. that means, if A innocent, then C must be innocent because B is a liar. If A is guilty, then with our assumption that B is involved, A would tell lie, which means C is also guilty. But this can't be true as no of guilty people are just two. So, we can say, A is innocent. That means, C is also innocent, coz A says so. Now, we need to decide who is the cheater among D and B. Since C is innocent and he says that If B is involved then D must be innocent. Since he doesn't know who cheated, it could be the case that D cheated and B was the guilty one. If C says, If B cheated then D must be innocent does not means that B and D can't be together. SO our first assumption that B is guilty hold true coz all the statements are consistent with it.

Ankur
D & B
CLUE
( you cannot differentiate between the cheater and the accomplice for any other combination and C statement must be true )
