try to do following  steps
1) take first order derivative and check where function is increasing and decreasing
2) take second order derivative and  check for convexity and concavity of function
3) try to plot the function
 use intermediate mean value theorem.
try  to find out intersection of function with x axis
i hope this will help you to figure out the ans
(ans is 3 real roots)

Definition:
the intermediate value theorem states the following: If f is a real-valued continuous function on the interval [a, b], and u is a number between f(a) and f(b), then there is a c ∈ [a, b] such that f(c) = u.
