ok.. got it.. i hope its right..
since f(3) = 10 or 3(square) =1,
which  means f(x)= x(square) + 1
 so f(x)= f(-x) in any case,
so f is even function.

and yeah i was confusing even nos. with even functions.. thanks a lot :)
