Okay, I'm a student of MA Economics in GIPE and there is a lot of confusion here regarding the different institutes.

First of all, don't compare colleges like commodities. A college would never ever determine your future. It's a fact. It's completely and wholly upto your capability, and all of you should know that by now.

On the misconceptions regarding placements, let me burst your bubble. DSE placements are great, but there's a lot of competition and the average placement is at best, average. Very few people get placed in plum companies like PwC and Goldman Sachs, Nomura and the likes.

I have friends in all institutes, and let me tell you, each one of them is exceptionally great, depending on how much you want to extract out of them.

Delhi School of Economics is extremely rigorous, and many of my friends who secured a sub 40 rank are now having backs in subjects. One doesn't get time to explore the world of economics relative to other colleges. The class strength is also very large, so personal interaction with the faculty is at best limited.

Now after bursting that bubble, good news is that colleges like GIPE and MSE can help in your career sometimes more than DSE can. Both of them are very similar with the quality of students and there are really smart people in both. You'll get ample time to study the subject as well as time to develop your hobbies and personalities which is the most important part of one's college life(Stop going after packages and hone yourself first). Pune as a city is brilliant and trust me they are going to be the two best yearss of your life and you won't regret it at all. The faculty , some is good , some bad, but that's for all places including DSE(excluding IGIDR JNU and ISI :P) But now we're in that stage where faculty can only guide, rest we have to do ourselves. Many of GOkhale passouts have done really well, and have passed JRF, IES, GRE , IAS, placements and anything depending on his calibre. So chill about the college, Keep calm and study economics!
