ISI 2015

Rajat
Hi !

I am new to this discussion forum and looking to learn from your inputs.
I am an aspirant of ISI MSQE entrance examination -2015. I am currently standing at ground zero, yet to stand preparation from sratch.

I have been suggested the following books for prepartion:
Mathematics - RD Sharma (11th and 12th std.)
Microeconomics - HalVarian
Macroeconomics - Mankiw (I have completed MBA, where we used to study from Mankiw. I did not find this book very useful. Can someone suggest some other book)

I request all to pitch in with their opinions and confirm if I can go ahead with this.

Also, I have around 5 months in  my hand for preparation. Is this sufficient ?

Thanks

Hi Rajat!

5 months is more than enough to study for the ISI entrance exams. Study microeconomics well for ISI, you will need macro for DSE and other exams, if you are interested at all in them. Snyder and Varian are both good. You may consider Dornbusch and Fisher for macro.

Both DSE and ISI have rigorous, mathematically inclined curriculum. This translates into their entrance exams reflecting that fact. The entrance exams just have 12th standard concepts tested better. So, it would be very important for you to have a good grasp of mathematical concepts; especially calculus and linear algebra, which is used in both mathematics and economics. So, start by brushing up on those concepts and try to solve many problems on those topics.

All the best

Hey!

Yes, the ISI course is quite math intensive. Honestly, there hasn't been a lot of eco being used yet. So things are familiar still.

For the entrance, I used Varian. The workbook is pretty good. After a point, it just gets down to how good you are with math.

All the best!

Thank you all for your responses.

Like I have mentioned. I have completed B.Tech, MBA and by the time I take the MS QE examination, I would have worked from two years. Will it be too late to be doing MS then ?
