ISI D or K ?can one apply for both?

Varun
Hi everyone,

I wanted to know if one can apply for both the centers ? if yes, how? I see only 1 preference option in application form.

Also any thoughts on which one is better or any specific advantage over other , delhi or Kolkata?

Thanks.

But for Ph.D. purpose, which is better? Is it Delhi, as these rankings suggest?

I have heard contradicting things...some of the guys say ISI D is far better than ISI K for MSQE.

Can anyone from the forum , studying in ISI, can put some light on this? Delhi or Kal?

N how do they decide cut-offs?same for both?

Also are the question papers same for ISI-D and ISI-K? Cut offs certainly cannot be the same. ISI -K has lesser number of seats.

Yes, and also see that this year's DSE toppers went to ISI-D, not to ISI-K, this might be due to the fact that the toppers were SRCC alumni and wanted to stay at Delhi at any cost, but though I think ISI-D is good for rigorous studies.Faculty is also good at Delhi.

The problem with me is only that I know about Delhi center bit more, but don't know too much about Kolkata center. So, I really need advice.

i know one thing about ISI K its dat there is no fixed no of students who enter dey decide a cutoff and those who are above it get admitted. No second lists last yr 7 people got in. The cutoffs are pretty much off the roof. Try Delhi or u may come here if u know u r a genius. The interviews have only maths probs and a whiteboard where u solve them........dont come her unless u r sure u will get in. Most ISI K students are ISI bstat students if ISI. The BSTAT of isi is like  msc stat in DU. So do the math guys

I think ISID and ISIK both have same entrance test. Obviously, interview questions will be different for each & every candidate

Also, if Kolkata doesn't get as many applications as Delhi, then higher cut-off doesn't mean that K is tougher than D, though there is 'if-then' condition.

Some more informaiton :
ISI D typically calls around 3 times the interview calls by ISI K......(atleast last 3 years data state dat)
For instance last year, ISI D called 51 and ISI K 18-19......27 got in ISI D...couldnt find any data for ISI K.

Also, ISI K takes its BStat and Bmath students in MSQE directly after an internal interview or academics performance check.

So, one can assume dat , if cut-offs are same for both D n K , K receives less applications? ( lesser competition dat way in K?.:P)
