Re: ISI interview

u(x0,x1)=(xo)^a + d(x1)^a

they give prefrence over 3 bundle
1. (x,0)
2.(0,y)
3.(x',0)

and some relation between x,y and x'

and ask the lower band and upper band of the d.

and when "a"(parameter in uitilty function)changes from 1 to less than 1.
lower/upper bound increase or decrease

and at the end they asked what is economic intution behind it(not written in paper)

and your?
are you able to solve some part of the question?

individual preferences
(x,0) > (0,y) > (x',0)

and x > x'
 x may be  > or < y (not sure)

Re: ISI interview

Answer is u(x,0)>u(y,0)>u(x',0), solve this you will get the inequality.

And alpha =1 it is risk neutrality , the preferences will be anywhere along the budget line

When alpha < 1 it is risk averse with convex preferences, optimal bundle will be only at  one particular point on budget line.

I was able to solve the question whereas economic intuition I was not able to explain during interview. I expect most of the economic students will be able to get this intuition, as of I saw at least half of them were able to solve this question

Out of 16, only 12 students are present in our group(3rd). How about rest of you?

Re: ISI interview

Once after you solve the above inequality, substitute alpha = 1 in one case and alpha < 1  in this case you will find it both higher and lower bounds.
