Lots of DSE doubts - Please help!

Homer Simpson
This post was updated on .
Please explain the reasoning - thank you!

Additionally, the club-tribe question is from DSE 2011 - my confusion is about why (c) cant be a possible option?

How exactly does one approach 33??? Where can i look up on solving these kind of problems.

“Operator! Give me the number for 911!”

parabola passes through (0,0) point.. and take any arbitrary point (0,b) on the y axis(+ve axis). Since we want to minimize the distance.. This will be possible when we tk b<2 from d available options...

q 33 P(Z<0.5) = 1 -P(Z>0.5) = 1 -P(X>0.5,Y>0.5) = 1 -P(X>0.5)P(Y > 0.5) = 1 -0.25 = 0.75

Q24. F(x) = F(x) - F(a)
Now F'(x) = d(F(x) -F(a))/dx =f(x)      ( F(a) is constant)
F''(x)= f'(x) and its given f'(x)>0 in [a, infinity)
F''(x) >0 hence convex

Q39. We are given P(Reject H0 | True H0) = 0.09 ( its type 1 error)
P( reject H0 | true H0) = P( x<k) for 2x = k² = 0.09
→ k= 0.3 ( -0.3 is not possible as x E [0,1] )
ß = type II error = P( do not reject H0 l false H0) = P(x>0.3| 2-2x) = .49
