Madras school of economics entrance syllabus changed

hello everyone! I was just going through MSE's brochure. They have mentioned that this year the exam pattern would be similar to the CAT exam. Not like previous years where there were good amt of eco maths and stats question. How is everybody preparing for it? What all books to study from?

yes..even i saw that.The pattern of the exam will be like that of MBA.Any idea how much markswe need get to qualify??

I think gokhle has got the same kind of pattern this year. Is that true? What would be the difficulty level. Any idea?

ya i also saw that....its shocking....we are here to prepare economics and they are testing us for mba admission type exam...

What is your source for this? I wouldn't be surprised but I have not read this anywhere.

Sorry for the off topic reply but I can think of about two (not mutually exclusive) reasons for MSE to be doing this, although maybe I'm being too skeptical.

1) CAT gets about 2.05 lakh applicants, perhaps by introducing a CAT-like entrance format MSE can increase their applicant pool as more MBA aspirants might just decide that MSE is not a bad idea, given that it has decent/good placements. In other words, MSE wants to try to recruit students with good aptitudes from fields other than economics without giving them a losing edge when compared to economics undergraduates in the selection process.

2) MSE believes that a student's performance in their new format can better correlate with their performance in their Economics programmes.

And many of guys like me would not see even the programme broucher just assuming it would be same as that of a normal Economics Entrance

One more thing guys they have not mentioned time limit, Will there be negative marking, or how many marks are alloted to particular sections? ?

guys they have mentioned MBA like entrance not CAT entrance .. so one shouldn't be much worried as it will be not very tough and also there will an additional paper in economics for shortlisted candidated for mse so paper in cucet will not be tough as mse will give only 50% weightage to it only.....

we are already so much tensed because of these entrance exams. Why the heck do they introduce new things at the last moment.

Exactly Priyesh..
Its not a CAT entrance type, but then all MBA entrance are same as that of CAT One need to prepare for all those topics that are covered in CAT.

guys i think the pattern given is only for MBA and integrated courses. though i still wonder why is MA eco also listed under that pattern..
i am saying so because in FAQ section 2015 they have written that MBA pattern is for MBA course and integrated courses.
