Presidency University Masters in Applied Economics is good..Also Calcutta University Department of Economics has a very good faculty especially if you are interested in Political Economy, Environment Economics or International Trade...CU has a very good faculty in terms of the mentioned trades..and its undoubtedly among the top 10 for economics..!!!!

Hey Nupur...if by PU u mean the esteemed Presidency University  it is awesome. Only 10 seats for non presidency students is available so competition here is relatively tougher. In total 26 seats so u r given individual attention in class unlike DSE.  Also apply here if u r interested in studying Msc. Applied Economics. The syllabus of econometrics is at par with ISI. Faculty is good. Placements excellent. If u want a great kickstart to a corporate career presidency is ur call.
Good luck!

Anjali.. when u do masters u do that under a university not college like undergraduate courses. So if u choose calcutta university u will study at calcutta university.
For presidency study EVERYTHING ,all topics be it micro macro developmnt or econometrics everything is given equal weightage. Also since the pattern of the paper is not disclosed prepare smartly from every corner.

Vandita , is CU open for admission now ? And what about its exam pattern ?
And for PU , could you tell me the level of the exam ? I mean is it as tough as ISI and DSE ?
What about other options for masters in economics pan India ( which are open at present ) ?

Anjali look first of all the question paper pattern is not disclosed(atleast was'nt till last year). The batch before me got an objective paper which was not tough. However when i took the entrance surprisingly there was subjective paper. I will suggest as regards presidency just keep your preparation synonymous with other entrance preparation that u hv done so far. PU entrance will be the last among all other universities if u do apply here. So by that time u would anyway know quite a lot of eco!

No centres outside kolkata! Being a Delhite studying in kolkata,i can honestly say, CU and PU have just become centres of Left-wing politics and daily fight between the new TMC party and Marxist student-leaders. Upar se non-bengalis ke liye bohat hi isolating atmosphere hain...yahan itna jyada, politically charged atmosphr hain ki padhai backseat pe aa jati hain.  Bas purana naam hi reh gaya hain, nothing else ...in comparision to other mainstream Universities, no focus on study methods, no attractive placements, just a few one-cabin-one-computer-in-a-corner medium-salary jobs now and then. And PU's eco dept is running under inexperienced , new bunch of teachers who have not even got permanent jobs in the university. Mamta didi ney isey university ka naam toh de diya par ... Acc to me, Univ of madras aur ambedkar univ, delhi are better options, as per this topic. and only Jadavpur Univ of Kolkata is really good for economics. Thank u.

Miss Tanu Jaiswal
Studies at CU and PU are "NEVER" affected by any kind of political drama in case it takes place. Infact off late there is hardly any. Talking of politics in university then JNU is the leader.
As far as faculty in PU is concerned then please get your facts right. PU has good faculty, amazing HOD, permanent professors, with every semester having guest lecturers from ISI and IIMs.
CU boasts of excellent faculty of 25 professors. Placements do take place.
And if u think , you, a delhite cannot adjust with people in bengal, then that is your personal problem. Too sad.. your bad luck. People from bengal can adjust in delhi though!!
Good Luck!

Well just to jerk your memory and be a little unbiased , WB's leading economist (i wont state his name here) was physically attacked right there in campus (CU) by our fellow students isn't it ? I mean what's this extra sentimentality for defending things that should not be defended? just because you are associated with it? It doesn't happen with me!  Anyway I gave my honest opinion however "politically" incorrect. Have a good day. :)
