Hi everyone... i actually do not fit into this forum at all as im a loser but just wanted a last opinion from all of u winners out there as a last resort before.............
i completed my eco(h) in 2010 n then took a professional break for 2 years(i.e. i worked) but then realized that i dont fit into the corporate world and thus decided to go on with higher education in economics. I applied everywhere this year but proved to be incapable...i did not get through anywhere and im disheartened..broken and just feel useless. I dnt wish to drop another year nw as i already left my job 8months back for THIS... i feel my hardwork hasnt paid and i hav pathetic luck to add to that. is there any place i can go to?? the only places left are AMITY..which i feel is useless...or to go for IGNOU distance M.a Eco...my long term goals are M.phil/phd and to clear NET. Please help me out ..ill really be grateful to all of u.... :( |
Hey don't lose heart please. Whatever happens always happens for the best. Trust me. If you want, you can pursue some certificate courses for the coming year and side by side you can prepare again for M.A. Eco entrances. Something like NSE certification or a short development economics course might be of use to you .. depending on your interest. Or, forget the certificate courses.. Just take up the IGNOU programme and if you like it, keep going. And if you don't, then start preparing again. Else, you can even try abroad for your Masters. You will have to clear GRE though and TOEFL. In case you choose this avenue, you should start preparing for GRE as soon as possible as very little time is left. And finally, another option is to forget all of this "side by side" balancing act and just study hard to crack the entrances for next year. So what if you have to wait a little longer? You;re not running a race. What matters is that you should be happy. All the best and please don't ever lose hope... Good luck :)

u know what..there r people out there who get in after trying twice or thrice and they don't even find a job in the interim. u've been working since u graduated..remember that till now u hvnt wasted even 1 yr! join IGNOU..it's not bad..plz don't choose some silly private university..ignou is better..it's a central university. IGNOU's course in the first year will be very useful for the entrances next year. give it another shot next year and u will definitely clear at least one of the entrances. just in case u don't, u can continue with IGNOU and u'll be able to do a PhD later on. trust me, it'll be fine. in the meantime u can give tuitions to school kids..or if u r not bothered about money then u can teach underprivileged children for free..it'll give u peace of mind and u'll learn to appreciate the small things in life :-)
just in case u r thinking of changing ur goals, u could try to get a job with the RBI. graduates can give their exams and it's a great job :-) |

@lovekesh: ...I FEEL ANGRY,IRRITATED AND FRUSTRATED AT MYSELF....IM NOT SORRY! JUST feel incapable!!
|
Hard work or No of hours is not the criteria for these exams. It's smart work and no amount of scribbling here is going to make you feel worthwhile. And regarding that feeling of hard work doesn't pay, it's natural to think there is some kind of conspiracy of this world to keep you stand still. Go and see a psychiatrist, and it's a normal thing to do, don't think you have gone nuts if you visit a psychologist.

@losthope ur 23!!!yar just relax....see in life u might take 2-3 years more than what ur frnds take to get settled in life, but believe me never let the ppl around you be the reason for your despair.we all make wrong decesions ,its humane to err...firstly,stop cursing urself....if u start afresh even now u can land up in a handsome job two years from now and when u will be of 80 years of age u wont even remember these two years wasted right nw....stop thinkng about suicidal tendency....u will have to figure urself that economics really is ur passion???????/does it really make u happy?????if answer is yes...then just chill for a couple of weeks and starting august make a new beginning....if ur answer is no then u will have to chart out a new plan....but wotever ur answer is...take ur decision independent of ur external environment....i hope u dnt want to regret wasting ur life over those ppl who dont matter ....so relax and think what do u really want....
(and quickly change ur name to "ms/mr optimistic"....ohk....) |

but it's not like u've been sitting at home till now! those 'settled' people r working, right? u could have done that too. but u chose to quit and do what really interests u. u just failed in ur first attempt at that. so till now u've failed only once. u hv to stop thinking that u hv failed at 'everything' and now nothing good can happen.
i myself was planning to join IGNOU if i had to drop. i think it's better than something like amity. and what u will study in the first year will make it much easier to crack the entrances next year. even if u have to continue with IGNOU itself, u can work that extra bit and then get admission in a PhD programme somewhere. once u get to that next step the past won't matter. the WORST end to this could be: u return to the corporate world or u do MA from IGNOU and become a high school teacher. things can't get worse than this. plz make a smiley now ;) |

@lovekesh- Why would you be so mean to the guy?
@losthope- as for your situation..I'd say..take control of your emotions and decide what you wanna do. And if you know this is what it is then trying again should only be looked as an opportunity to learn more and be better prepared. Being a winner is not only about getting success..its also about how you handle failure. Once you decide things will fall in place.. and dont go the suicidal way please..talk to someone before.. :) |
I went to the military school till 9th. And that's the way we have been brought up. If army starts treating depressed fellows with cutie talk, then god save this country. this is how i see the world and sure the world is mean.
|
Dont go all Army on me.. I live the life.. its just that he needs boosting.. i wont say cutie talk and consoling but even the army has a way of morale boosting... so..just saying..

@ritu: my interest definitely lies in economics.. as 2 years back i took a wrong decision by not even trying for Ma eco..now i realised this mistake,,mayb doing it at that time wud hav been fruitful...anyhow..ill surely look at the options available...n yes i will change my name for sure..with a new post which will be jst for u guys ..wen i finally chalk out my plans... i cant believe u guys(ritu, vasudha, aditi, ram) are sooo encouraging to a complete stranger who was in desperate need of some hope..i did get some... thanks a million :) @ ameya: dats true...success isn't about winning its abt hw to take the failure too..jst needed strength and motivation for that which ive really gathered frm here ..thank u very mch! Congrats to all of you..vasudha,ritu,aditi,ram for DSE/JNU..congrats..Ameya..congrats to you too (sorry i dnt know where u have got through though, but ur positive mind speaks of celebrations..so congrats) |

Ameya..its okay....for someone to not understnd this state becoz that person isnt in it... its very easy to say..that dnt cute talk etc etc...since u urself are not in the situation.. im really happy that u understood my state and offered the much needed motivation/help. I dnt care abt people who did not think this was needed...!!

There were two students from IIT-D and they were expelled from college for ragging. They didn't tell their parents, they didn't jump off the bridge. They took admission in some obscure college and cracked IAS. If you know how they did it, you don't need anything else for morale boosting. But nay sayers would question the story itself.

Listen everyone goes through a rough patch.. as they say, if winter comes, can spring be far behind? Whoever these people are to whom you are comparing yourself, they might look outwardly "settled" but who knows what's really happening in their lives? To think that getting into a college is the measuring stick would be ridiculous. There are a hundred other things, so don't get into that line of thought at all. You are better than that. :)
Keeping in mind the long term goal you mentioned of PhD and NET.. I Genuinely feel you should join IGNOU. everyone knows this institute, its central.. plus, the AQF course at MSE is developed in collaboration with IGNOU. SO this means IGNOU has to be good for economics. Do your PhD and NET after that. I don't see anything wrong with this plan. You have cleared IGNOU. Congratulations for that :) Please don't be affected by criticism by others... the same way you should be unaffected by praise from others. You need to keep your goal in mind and move forward with that. :) |
Thanx a ton aditi... i really thought that this was the end..and really did not have a clue about how i would overcome these negative feelings but u've really calmed me down... ur right maybe these are my bad days and good days will come too..thank you very very much aditi... Ur a wonderfully positive person too :) now i will just keep my goal in mind ,move forward without gettng affected by anyone and achieve that one day :)

@losthope: sorry the name wasn't suggestive of the gender.. and very sweet of you but no I haven't got through anywhere this year. I quit my job recently to appear for DSE and unfortunately I didn't quite make it. But its alright, maybe there is still more to learn. If you are keen to give it another try, you have company. :)
Economics is more than just clearing an entrance and getting a degree, its so vast you could spend an eternity on it and still not know enough. I did work hard this time but I am prepared to give it another try as its only another year of learning and being better prepared for when I do get through. :) |
