answer is four,

x>0, x^2-5x+4 = 0, roots are 1 & 4

x<0, x^2+5x+4=0, roots are -1 &-4

Solving x^2-5x+ 4= 0, we get x=1,4

ans.= 4 roots ( can check by putting x= 1,4,-1,-4 in equation)
