Go for fundamentals of mathematical statistics by sc gupta nd vk kapoor....its much better vd lots of illustrations of varying difficulty levels

@Akshay , is the book ( sc Gupta ) you are referring different from the one prescribed by DU ( that we normally follow in first year ) ?
