Hmm. I am okay with Chennai weather for a lot of vacations were spent in Chennai. Pune has a fantastic weather but summers are bad there as well. :p but putting the weather factor aside as it matters so little in the long run career plans. I just want to know about the placements in the two places. Any body know anything to this regard?

Yes, thanks for pointing that out! :) I am not very seen on further studies after Masters at this point in time and so what you said makes sense. Thank you!

Re: CDS-MSE-HCU

In my humble opinion, i seriously doubt GIPE or MSE curriculum ability in terms of rigor which is required in financial or economic world. If you would notice, USA financial crisis was brought down by extremly complex derivatives and securitization. Even accomplished professionals and economists admit it's even hard them to understand the complexity of all these new financial innovations. So, make sure you guys complement your studies at GIPE or MSE with self study. Even DSE is notoriously famous for making life hard for even DU toppers and a glance at books from Robert Barro or David Romer would make you realize what you people are heading at. But am sure passion and love for the subject will sail you guys through :)

I could not agree more with you lovekesh. It is my personal belief that to study a subject like Finance, I should be heading out to Warwick or LSE or some place like that in the UK. But you see, it does not make sense to go abroad to study when jobs are so hard to come by these days and when the rupee is taking such a beating. And MSE and GIPE being the only two places which offer financial eco become the choice by default for students who want to study Financial eco instead of core eco but still don't want to stray away to something like MBA fin. So yes, what is say is true but there are hardly other options available.

hhhmmm....if you are looking for a specialized degree in financial economics, then India offers very less choice. But don't worry about jobs coz finance people are friendly with maths and maths people are never out of jobs in this universe. And even if you don't know iota of eco and good in maths, IB job is never far away. And you can start studying now. Yale has a great course on Financial theory on youtube and instructor is no less than a Hedge Fund Manager.

although there r only 15 seats in SAU...most of those making into d top 30 or 40 dont take admission in it,since they get a call from other reputed institutes...so dont worry..
a rank of 45 in SAU is definitely good and u will get call from them 4 sure :)

Thank you lovekesh for your tip. I shall definitely look that up :)

@shiva20, the information to the students pdf that they mailed us states that if the student has his/her name on the merit list for both the courses then he/she has the option to choose which course they want to study. But either way, you can always ask them :)

I went to the girls hostel during one of my exploratory visits to MSE and it seemed alright. I have been living away from home and have seen some of the dumps they call hostel rooms so in comparison to all that, the hostel seemed fine. Anyhoo, if you feel it's not your scene, you can always get rooms or flats outside the campus. :)

How many of you are giving the 29th MSE exam?

There are many who didn't even made it into college and are millionaires in Wall Street. Job is not a big deal if you love your subject. Trust Me. We had a batchmate at our college, she was not good in studies but now she works as a creative designer for Flipkart and my friend, mechanical engg is a writer for a website. All i am saying is if eco is your passion, then don't worry. :)

Re: CDS-MSE-HCU

Hey sweta,
A friend of mine who made it to General Economics got 68 but that person's name is toward the end of the list. Also it is mentioned that people who have had ties in the merit list have been given the merit rank based on their performance in Section B of the CUCET paper. So that might a plausible reason as to why you haven't got a call.
Even though the cut off is 50 for general economics, they probably have not put you in the list probably because they probably have a cap on the total number of students they wanted to take for the first merit list. even though you have gotten way above the cutoff there must have been 60 people with marks in the range of the highest score to 62. Also your name is not on the fin eco list probably because they must have given preference to students who have given that subject as their first preference. I am not sure, this is just my guess.
