Now there is whole another drama, if I get into 1st List of MSE ( which is out on 25th guys), I might have to go all the way to Chennai on 6th !!! I am tired (((

Re: IGIDR Interview (getting over todays high decible drama)

Till now, my decision (perception) is based on two things : firstly my own perception after reviewing both course structure, both institute's profile ( website and all).. and potential research propensity. Secondly, the reply of GIPE alumni which I posted here also. He just passed out this year.

The very genesis of the confusion was that I was not able to understand the course structure of GIPE and that is still the biggest thing deterring me from GIPE. While in comparison GE-CUTN-Final.pdf MSE course structure seems quite good.

I browsed through MSE website too and their research efforts seemed impressive. Now I know, GIPE website is down and has been down for what like 2-3 months for now?

But still, I am a bit undecided .. and the main things causing confusion are: GIPE reputation and Chennai god awful climate.

Well its pretty much my perception on the issue,.... it be great if people would add their thoughts.

Vasudha don't miss breakfast at Vaishali - nice south indian :) and Kayani's simple vanilla sponge cake :)
Vaibhav, Chennai climate is really bad, Pune climate is awesome in comparison. But you really should not make your decision based on that. Go purely for course structure and your keep it in line with your future plans. MSE and GIPE are both equally reputed - maybe MSE slightly more - but you'll have a good experience wherever you go. For GIPE, you don't have to stay in the hostel, you can always take a flat. That area is full of student accommodations - PGs, flats and what not. So don't decide purely on the basis of what your  friend told you. But yes, the studying climate is not as serious as it is in MSE.

Yeah, I know ... I have been there. Well ... lets see ...

If you are in Pune already .. then you certainly should come to IGIDR .... just a matter of couple of hours from there ....

JNU takes way too much time in declaring results ... really way way too much ... GIPE is really snappy in this area, considering they didnt even have OMR sheets, and essay too.

I do hope JNU results comes out by this month only ...

Hi Vaibhav. My interview is on the 27th of July. I am going to do a very general coverage of all basic topics, that's all. Plus some current affairs, of course. I got back from Delhi after DSE exam only last night so I really don't have much time. If you've done any major research work in your unergrad course, you might want to go through it once so you can answer any questions on it.

Ritu, I agree gipe isn't as bad as everyone says, but for someone from Delhi, it might be better to consider other options like Jamia, JNU etc. Because if you're staying so far away, it might as well be in order to study in an institute of great repute. In it's heyday, gipe was like the place to be for economics, but there have been many issues that it has faced in the last decade. One of my seniors studying there says that things have improved, and whoever says that only KPOs come there for recruitment have no idea what they're talking about. But there are a lot of flaws in the curriculum, I agree. So the choice should be made carefully keeping in mind the level of comfort, your preferred destination and your future career options.

VaibhavR, you needn't worry  I've seen  your name in all the lists and I'm quite confident you'll clear JNU so the matter of gipe-vs-mse will not arise for you I think.

@Khagesh, I am going to do general topics like macro, ISLM, national income accounting, consumer and producer theory, calculus etc. Considering my background, they are more likely to ask me these type of questions. For current affairs I'll read up on the Indian economy, not sure yet exactly what that may comprise because I'm rather out of things due to this entrance-exam-marathon. If I come up with anything which I feel is important, I will post it here  But generally stuff along the lines of what they asked in teh gipe essays, you know. Current burning topics, that sort of thing
