Umm i didn't attempt this one bcoz i was not sure. But what i thot was this: say i'm 1 of the players. the expected value of the other player's number is 50. so i wud swap if my no. is less than 50. but then i know that the other guy wud also swap only when he's got less than 50. if he has less than 50 the expected value of his no is 25. so now i shud swap if i get less than 25. but then he wud be doing the same :) so i shud swap if i get a no less than 12.5..this will continue and i wud never swap :|
@neha, vasudha - guys as d quesn says f(x)= px+qx^2 , so in f(x) given in quesn similarly put f(y)=py+qy^2 n den solve..altho its a lengthy method but m getting integrals values for p & q
Hi Deepak. Type II error is the error of accepting a false hypothesis. H0 is false implies p is actually 2/3. Now if u take 0 to be the critical value u accept the null when X=1,2 or 3. Find the probability of that using the actual probability distribution of X (i.e, when p=2/3). If u take 3 to be the critical value u accept the null when X=0,1 or 2. Again find the probability of this. The 1st one will be higher than the 2nd one. So type II error is minimized when u take 3 as the critical value.
