YOU CAN DO IES after financial eco, actuarial eco or aqf ...the stream you will be filling in your form is applied economics instead of economics ...so go for MSE
Hi guys..was just going through this thread...I am not an aspirant , i have already completed my masters but here are some things I would like to share with you as I faced the same dilemma:
1) look at the rate of return : how much you invest and how much you are expecting to get ( tutionfee + hostel fee+ cost of living in the city v/s placement package) , this is for those people who are interested in corporate
2) If looking for phd, then look at the recent projects undertaken by the institute , faculty specialization, collaborations with the govt. and your area of interest
3) I read a few comments over cities, I don't understand how a city is given more priority over your career, but then it is an individual decision
4) IES can be given by M A eco guys as well as fin eco and a whole lot of other streams , the difference is that gen eco guys put economics as the subject and others put applied economics
ALL the best for your future
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and for clearing the doubts for IES. From where did you complete your masters? And should I chose GIPE or MSE for fin econ?
I did my masters from MSE so I will be biased towards it but I was offered gen eco in both mse and gipe and I chose fin eco at MSE
MY logic: if someone wants to hire a gen eco person he will first go to DSE,IGIDR,JNUetc.
if they want finance then i have competition with MBA finance but there you spend more than 20 lakhs and at mse it was 20000
you should confirm with someone from gipe too to have a better idea
Honestly, getting in these institutes is the easy part .....survival is tough, i have many friends in DSE who were very bright eco hons. people but they flunked in first year so if you want to excel then you have to do smart work + hard work
@shruti ..honestly I don't have any idea but the seats at MSE have increased this time around 210 which makes it 105 non reserved seats ..so I hope you get through ,but sorry no idea about the cutoffs
Guys.. my aim was to get thru in dse last year.. bt didnt.. nd got thru in Gipe nd mse.. nd now in Gipe 2nd yr.. my seniors hav completed in mse dis year.. but wen it comes to placement dey felt gipe was better coz one among dem didnt get placed.. wen u hav gipe in hand go fr it.. nd pls its ur future i dont think d city is important.. institution is important yaar..
@swami.. am from kerala though nt from ur state.. ciao swami nd br on 15th..
Guys I got 76. Just wanted to know one thing, if a person is aiming for research or IES going forward, will it really make a difference which college he/she chooses from the given 3-4 options. I feel if you compare the faculties, I dont think except JNU or ISI, you can really compare their credibility or knowledge or experience.
I am looking here for just one answer, is there any good coaching for IES/economics in the near vicinity of MSE. Though I checked it on net, but nly one name I could find out which is Shanker's coaching that too for IAS.
Shahbaaz..I live in Chennai..As far as i know, there isn't any coaching centre for IES(Economics) in Chennai..That's just my knowledge..Please correct me if I'm wrong..
